Ultimately, a lot of my healing has been a reflection of what my parents were not able to do– I think as is probably often true. I don’t want to have the effect on the world that they did. I want to be able to understand why they acted the way they did and I want to get myself to a place where I feel, more than they did, that I have a choice to act differently. And it’s interesting having that come up in a song that I wrote so young.
